ALDO CIBIC
Born in 1955 in Schio, in the province of Vicenza, Aldo Cibic received his education in Milan under the watchful eye of Ettore Sottsass. While he was still young he moved to Milan, where he met the father of New Design. In 1980 he became a partner of Sottsass Associati, together with Matteo Thun and Marco Zanini, and then of Memphis in subsequent years.
With regard to Aldo Cibic's professional formation, a period of intense experimentation for Italian design and architecture in the 1980s coincided with a phase of maximum personal stylistic maturity. Towards the end of the decade Aldo Cibic separated from the Sottsass school and founded his own company, in 1989, Cibic and Partners, which continues to embrace activities in the areas of architecture, interior design and design in Italy and overseas. At the same time he developed research into alternative methods in the sphere of design and architecture, through his company and schools such as the Domus Academy, Milan Politecnico, the IUAV of Venice and the Tongji University of Shanghai, of which Cibic is honorary professor.
